Green Building Practices

At J.W. Mashburn Homes our goal is to build solid, high performance homes that provide our homeowners with less maintenance, plus energy and water efficient features which will lead to noticeable overall savings on annual utility expenses, create a healthy and relaxing home and contribute to improving the earth’s environment. We use up-to-date homebuilding technology and energy efficient building materials with recycled content whenever possible.

In a J.W. Mashburn Home, you will reduce your carbon footprint and your utility bills at the same time.

  • Begin with a smart layout that saves energy. Our open floor plans reduce energy consumption because air circulates naturally throughout the space, and we use less building materials.

  • Build the exterior of our homes with brick which means you enjoy a natural, energy-saving material that rarely needs maintenance throughout the life of your home.

  • Our fully insulated whirlpool and soaker baths with low density foam insulation and passive warm air induction systems help keep you warmer, longer. Manufactured by Jetta, our bath systems are guaranteed to keep the water temperature in your insulated whirlpool and soaker baths within 2 degrees of its original temperature after 30 minutes of use.

  • Programmable thermostats to be sure we do not waste energy.

  • 13 SEER Carrier Dual Fuel heat pump air conditioning system, with a 10 year compressor warranty. Uses gas and electric for added energy efficiency and savings.

  • Efficient and performance engineered Delta Lahara water saving faucets

  • Quiet Brace sound deadening exterior sheathing provides an additional 1.31 to the wall system R-Value *certified by the Scientific Certification System (SCS) to contain at least 84% recycled pre-consumer wood fiber

  • Silver Line by Andersen Company double pane tilt in vinyl windows for increased energy efficiency. Silver Line windows are covered by a limited LIFE TIME WARRANTY.

  • Framing techniques to maximize wall insulation

  • R-38 attic insulation

  • Energy saving direct vent fireplace

  • Free Wheel Turbine attic vents and continuous soffit venting for improved air circulation and added energy efficiency.

  • HVAC in attic to reduce noise and maximize floor space.

  • Use low-flow toilets and showerheads and use (or recommend you select) appliances that are Energy Star-certified

  • Install carefully sized, 13-SEER heating and air conditioning systems that will thoroughly filter and dehumidify the air.

  • Build, when possible, on property near existing stores and schools as well as utilities like sewer, water, and electricity, so that municipalities do not have to create everything anew.
